1 minute read

Introducing the second issue of rooted, a quarterly publication from The Learning Tree, produced with the support of the Indianapolis Foundation.

The cover story features Januarie York’s efforts to create BREAD, and other stories highlight Elephant Gardens, Community Ambassadors, and institutional trust. The issue demonstrates how food, storytelling, listening, and shared space can reveal gifts, strengthen social capital, and move resources.

At its core, rooted Issue 2 shows that gathering with care can help people feel seen, deepen relationships, and create the conditions for stronger families, neighborhoods, and communities.

Published by Le’Deana Brown, rooted offers a thoughtful, grounded look at how the Community Ambassadors initiative came to life and why it continues to matter. The publication documents a shared commitment to staying closely connected to neighborhoods, residents, and lived experience as a way to inform grantmaking, strategy, and long-term systems change.
