In Indiana, individuals released from prison receive support to help them secure housing, employment, and a path forward. Yet those who are exonerated—proven innocent after years of wrongful imprisonment—are not offered the same reintegration services. The Willie T. Donald Exoneration Advisory Coalition was created to help close this gap, inspired by the story of Willie T. Donald, who spent nearly 24 years in prison for crimes he did not commit.
The coalition provides two key forms of support: reintegration assistance for exonerees and advocacy for policy reforms that ensure fair treatment for those wrongfully convicted. As awareness grows, the coalition is increasingly sought out by individuals across the country who are seeking similar guidance and services.
The Willie T. Donald Exoneration Fund, held at CICF, enables the coalition to deliver critical wraparound resources that exonerees often lack, while also strengthening connections with organizations in their home states.
